Paxtonville Church
Faith Walkers
Remember that our congregation has been touched many times by the dreaded disease cancer, and many of our loved ones have died. We must continue to fight for a cure. We must continue to work to raise funds to assist in this cause. Much of the money raised at the Relay stays in our own community to help individuals with those extra expenses that arise due to a diagnosis of cancer. A certain percentage of money raised at the Relays is given to Geisinger Medical Center to help with research.
Paxtonville’s Faith Walkers’ team will once again have a team in the Midd-West Relay-for-Life which will be held on Friday, June 25, starting at 4:00 p.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26. We are in need of volunteers to be on our team. The biggest responsibility of being a team member is to help raise money for our team. We will also need walkers during the 24-hour relay. Please see Leta Doersam to get a registration form if you would like to be a member of the Faith Walkers’ team.
The team is currently selling the same delicious Easter Eggs they sold last year. They are selling Peanut Butter with either milk or white chocolate coating and Coconut Cream with either dark chocolate or white coating. Costs of eggs are $1 and will be available in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings.
Another fundraiser we are having is a Pampered Chef Party with consultant Amy McClellan. This will be held Saturday, April 17, 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. If you like Pampered Chef products but cannot come to the party, please see Amy for a catalog. Amy says there are many new products in the catalog since we had our last party.
Other fundraisers we are planning is an All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast and a hoagie sale. We have not finalized any dates but you can watch the bulletin for Relay updates. All teams of the Midd-West Relay for Life have combined efforts and planned a Family Movie Night for March 6 at the West Snyder Middle School in Beaver Springs. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. The movie being shown is “ET” and the cost of admission is a donation to the American Cancer Society. A food stand will be available. (See posters on church doors.)
The Midd-West Relay for Life has planned to hold their 2nd Gospel Concert to be held Saturday, April 24th, at the West Snyder Middle School. Groups and individuals performing will be His Servants, Dave Hartsock, and Gospel Bond. There will be a food stand where you can grab a bite to eat before the concert. Advanced tickets are $5 and at the door, $7. Children under 12 are free. Please see Nancy Stull or Leta Doersam for advanced tickets.
Cancer Survivor Lap
The Relay for Life of Midd-West would like to honor anyone who is a cancer survivor. The American Cancer Society considers a person to be a cancer survivor from the moment of diagnosis; no matter what type of cancer, no matter how long the treatment. Survivors are the guests of honor at the Relay. Each survivor will be presented with a gift at the Relay, as well as an opportunity to participate in a special ceremony to commemorate their cancer journey. We invite all cancer survivors in our community to join together for a celebration of hope and life!
The Survivor Ceremony/Lap starts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 25. Caregivers are also encouraged to attend this ceremony along with the survivors. A caregiver is anyone who lends physical, emotional, or other support to another person at any point during the cancer journey. You are still a caregiver if your loved one is no longer with you. After the Ceremony/Lap, survivors and caregivers are invited to a banquet in their honor. If you are a cancer survivor or a caregiver to someone with cancer, please pick up a form on the display table in the Fellowship Hall, fill it out, and mail it to Ami Boop (as indicated on the form) or give it to Leta Doersam.
Luminaria Ceremony
Everyone is invited to attend the Luminaria Ceremony on Friday evening. Candles will be placed in white bags, each bearing the name of someone who has had cancer. The bags will be placed around the track and lit for a special ceremony at 9:00 p.m. We invite you to be part of the fight against cancer within our community. Please pick up a luminaria form on the relay table and purchase a luminaria for each friend and loved one who has faced cancer. Cost of a luminaria is a donation. As participants walk throughout the night, the luminaries remind and inspire them that the fight against cancer is about real people in the community. Please give your form and money to Leta Doersam or Nancy Stull as soon as possible if you want your name included in the program book for 2010.
Why join the Paxtonville Faith Walkers’ team? To help take up the fight with the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
